Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Manhattan

Best places to shop for meat/chicken

I usually shop for fruits and veggies at Stiles Farmers Market.. other essentials at Trader Joes and on occassion whole foods.
I am looking for suggestions on where to buy meat and chicken at reasonable prices. At the prices I see at most grocery stores in manhattan, I am tempted to eat out instead.

  1. Where are you willing to go, and what cuts are you looking for?

Although the 2nd thread is not about meat in general, it looks like there are some good leads in there (Western Beef, Chinatown).

    1. As you already go to Stiles, there are a couple of options for you, based on the quality you expect and the prices you are looking for:
Right next to the souther Stiles is the Meat Market, which has very low prices but is a bit like Stiles-you have to look through the selections sometimes and check the quality of what you are picking up. They also have very good prices for Boars Head, as an aside.
My personal favorite for quality butcher services with nice cuts of meat and a good selection is Esposito's, 38th/9th. It's not rock bottom prices, but certainly reasonable for Manhattan, especially with the service. $3.99 for chicken breasts, anywhere from $5.99 and up for beef, $4.99 for pork tenderloin, etc.

      1. I recently started shopping at Costco for most of my meat. Before that I relied on a combination of Fairway, Chinatown and Western Beef depending on the cut I was looking for.
