Need recommendatations near the Marriot on Canal

Staying there for 10 days starting 7/23. Would like "good value" within walking distance as we have limited time(about 2 hrs) between sessions at a bridge tournament. Even better would
be any places with early bird specials as we are done by 5. Thanks

Mr. B's lunch menu: $1.50 cocktail plus BBQ shrimp at the lunch price (less than dinner)
Pelican Club may have a very, very reasonable early bird special when you're there. I remember seeing a chalkboard. That place is terrific.
    Johnny's Po-Boys is also nearby.

Ditto Palace Cafe. Just if you need another vote.

I'll give Palace Cafe another nod. It's a beautiful restaurant and the food is good. Bananas foster for dessert is a must (table side preparation too). If you go for lunch, I believe they are running their summer "temperature" special - they offer a two course lunch for 10 times the previous day's high temperature. So, if the temp was 95, the price of lunch would be $9.50. I believe they are also running a $5 small plates and cocktails special on weekdays between 5-7 p.m. if you're looking for pre-dinner drinks and snacks or a light, early dinner.

I agree with the Palace Cafe for a great meal. The Sunday Jazz Brunch is wonderful, there.
