Hi,

Just moved to RI. Besides freshdirect, are there any suggestions for fish/meat markets, ethnic groceries (chinese, indian) in the nearby Queens vicinity. We have a car..

Thanks,
S

    Hi suetibu,

Okay, you've stumped me. What's RI? I can only think of Rhode Island (yay coffee milk and Del's frozen lemonade!).

    Ridgewood?
    Richmond Hill?

    ciao,

Roosevelt Island? Raten Island? Rity Island?

        Hi 2slices,

Okay, I win the "Duh" Award. I kept looking at Queens and it didn't occur to me to look a little to the west.

So, mea culpa and "duh." Must get coffee now...

        Anyway...

        suetibu,

You're on the F Line so you have excellent access to Jackson Heights and Elmhurst. With a transfer you can also get to Woodside, Astoria, Corona, or Flushing. That Metrocard puts the foods of the world essentially at your fingertips.

With your car you can easily do even more by including some of the outer reaches of the above neighborhoods (big Korean/pan-Asian supermarkets in Flushing, Cannelle in Jackson Heights). You can also include Eastern European meat places in Ridgewood or Greenpoint which are both a little less transit friendly but quite doable with a car.

Search the Outer Boroughs board for each of the neighborhoods mentioned above and you'll see plenty of great recommendations.

        Happy exploring!

        Ciao,

        Glendale is hungry...

I was still guessing, I've never heard anyone call it RI. Anyway assuming thats what it is, I went to roosevelt Island once, they had a pizza place and a chinese takeout and I think a coffee shop. Not sure I could handle that. But whatta view.

Family Mart is near you. It was my go-to grocery when I lived in Astoria.

        Family Mart
        29-15 Broadway
        Astoria, NY 11106

I also go to Center Point in Woodside if I've eaten at Sripraphai (with an additional stop at the must-try Queens bakery Cannelle)

        63-19 39th Ave, Woodside, NY

Flushing is the best for Chinese groceries, but I'm not sure how far you want to travel since you requested nearby locations. Patel Brothers in JH is great for all things Indian. But again, Woodside and Astoria are much closer to you as far as ethnic grocers go.

My fault!! Should have been more descriptive. Yes I am talking about Roosevelt Island.

          Thank you for the suggestions..

I am looking for a large Chinese/international store for cheap vegetables etc.. Also for a good fish place (don't like freshdirect for fresh fish)..

Will check out the places mentioned..

          Thank you,
          S
