Zin, Palm Springs

Had a couple of great meals on rec of the board readers a couple of years ago at Zin in PS and wonder if it is still good? Also, would appreciate rec for any good Mexican places, either pure or Tex-Mex/Cal-Mex (we are from Canada so not exactly Mexican purists)

I have not had great experiences with Zin in recent years (though my last visit was about a year ago). I much prefer Johannes and it's about the same price point. Johannes is really one of the best restaurants in Palm Springs. It doesn't have the gorgeous patio and atmosphere of Copley's, but is less expensive and I think the food is better.
For Mexican don't miss El Mirasol. Great mole and great patio.

We tried Zin's regardless and it was very nice. I notice that the original chef/owner passed away last year so that may have been part of the change you comment on but we thought things were pretty similar to when we were last there 3 or 4 years ago.

El Mirasol is good and fun. Excellent drinks. The food however is bland, nothing really stands out. Try JJ's Latino (PS) Small, family run, and more interesting Mexican all the way around. Sorry, can't help you with Zin.
