Where to go for an engagement dinner?

  • 5

Hello fellow chowhounds,

I have recently gotten engaged, and my fiance's parents would like to take us out for a nice dinner (quality of food above all else) to celebrate the occasion. I was thinking No. 9 Park, L'Espalier, or Clio, but I wanted your input to help make this evening unforgettable. Where would you go if you could dine anywhere in Boston for a special meal?

Please help!

  1. l'espalier has lost some of its appeal for me since changing locations and no. 9 for me is never the grand slam it should be at that price point. one dish is always a miss.

    clio remains top-notch.

any thoughts on your end for menton or o ya?

    congratulations to you!

Thank you! I was afraid of exactly what you mention for l'espalier and No 9 Park. At this point, I am open to any and all suggestions. I just want the food to be unbelievable.

If I could eat anywhere in Boston my choice would definitely come down to Menton and O-ya and it would be a REALLY tough call. I think the deciding factor for me would be the parents. My parents would feel more comfortable at Menton which is a more traditional, yet extremely special, dining experience. I would worry that my Dad would complain that he was hungry after leaving O-ya (but he is a little old school). So if it were me, I'd probably go to Menton, but maybe your future in-laws are a little hipper than my parents :-)

I'd have to agreet with MP. I do love L'Espalier and No. 9 Park, but my most memorable meal to date has been at O Ya. I went there this past year for our anniversary dinner and am still dreaming about it since.

    2. Have you considered Craigie on Main? In my opinion, some of the best food in the area. Although I haven't been to any of the ones you were considering except L'espalier before they moved.
