Recommendations in Westfield?
Hi. Some friends and I are looking for new places to try in Westfield. While we like most foods, we're looking for places that offer lighter entrees (given the heat) - fish, chicken, maybe pasta? Entrees should be in the $25 or so range. Thanks!

For a town like Westfield, upscale, nice downtown area, very Ridgewood-like, there is a surprising dearth of good restaurants. Chez Catherine is a bit past its prime, a little stuffy and overpriced IMHO. Mojave and Isabella's (same mgmt) are both uneven, a pot-luck as to whether you will hit them on a "good day". Acquaviva-- ordinary red sauce place, big prices, Theresa's, really really ordinary red sauce place, ugh.
Actually, the best place in the area is actually in Plainfield/Fanwood on South Avenue. Freshwaters, a wonderful place run with great care and precision by a home-grown couple. Carolina-Southern, family-run, great ambience, great original food, freshest ingredients, a wonderful place to go, beats anything in Westfield by MILES! A well-established restaurant, same location for 14 years.

The following thread should give you several ideas. Not all the places discussed are in Westfield but they are nearby:

Theresa's has very good food, but the service is hit or miss. The pasta dishes are wonderful and they have very interesting appetizers. The polenta with sausage is great. If you prefer Sushi, try Nagoya Japanese Restaurant on North Avenue, you will not be disappointed. The Thai Grill is also very good and they have outdoor seating. Enjoy!
