Terrific Lunch at Hooked in Marblehead

Hooked in Marblehead has just opened and I hope it'll be around for a long time. I had the fried fish sandwich, which came with two large pieces of fish and onion rings. The rings were probably the best I've ever had and the fish was crispy and very fresh. The staff were friendly and helpful and the dining room was pleasant. At Hooked you order your food at the bar and it's delivered to your table. Diners are expected to clear their table and, in exchange, there's a no tip policy. For folks who don't want fried food, there are several grilled fish options, either as entrees or as toppings for a salad.

Did they give Howie a job there now that supersub is closed?

My husband and I went there on a recent visit because of reviews here, other sites, and also our friends in Marblehead had liked it. We were not disappointed!

On the recommendation of our friends, I got the fish sandwich which was HUGE. I ate half the fish and half the onion rings and still had a whole meal left. The fish was excellent and I'm still dreaming about the onion rings. They are like the ones I remember as a kid from the now defunct Busy B's in Topsfield. My husband got the fish and scallop plate and fries and loved his too, but he liked my onion rings better than his fries. Fries were fine, it's just that the onion rings were excellent.

We liked the casual atmosphere (not tip policy - they request you bus your own tables). Met the owner, Ben Rhodes, who was making the rounds making sure everyone was happy. Nice guy.

My ONLY suggestion for improvement would be more salt on/in the fried items. I think there may be salt in the breading/batter, but am guessing they are not salting again when it comes out of the fryer. I had to add some. I noticed on another site someone had mentioned the same thing, so it wasn't just me.

But, otherwise, really good and we would absolutely go back.
