I'll be visiting SF in early august and I'm trying to decide between Gary Danko, Michael Mina and Ame. Any suggestions?

  1. Most around here recommend Ame, but each has their supporters. What are your parameters.

i've tried Daniel in NYC, Alkimia in Barcelona so maybe something different than these

The conventional wisdom for many is:
        a) You can get similar cuisine like Danko in most any reasonable cosmopolitan city
        b) Mina gets inconsistent reports (I had a fine meal there but others have not)
        c) What Ame serves you won't get elsewhere or the chances are much slimmer

    2. Danko hasn't changed their menu in years and, like ML8000 said, is so like so many other high-restaurants in other cities as to be forgettable.

I am a Mina detractor; I have eaten at three different Mina restaurants in three different cities and have yet to have a good meal. Shocked that so many seem to like it.

I love Ame but have gotten to a point of stopping after the crudo offerings and skipping to dessert. I can make a meal out of their crudo and appetizers.

      1. Of those, I prefer Ame, but it also depends what you are looking for.

I agree with ML8000... Ame because it is unique to SF.

        1. Of the three, I would say Ame. Mina has never really wowed me with their food. Danko is a solid choice, but a similar dining experience could be easily found in Chicago or NYC.

Thanks guys, I think that made my decision...Ame it is.
My other restaurant picks for my 3 day trip are: One market for lunch, Aziza for dinner, Slanted Door (lunch), Nopalito(dinner)
