First time in Phoenix/Chandler-Need recs

Hi all,
My boyfriend and I are coming from New York, NY and will be in Chandler in 2 weekends for a wedding. Looking for recs for 3 lunches, 2 dinners and some simple breakfasts (simple bites @ bakeries, cafes, etc). Any cuisine is okay, but possibly looking for places that are unique to AZ/Phoenix. Looking for lunch/brunch $10-$30 pp w/o tax or drinks; dinners $30-75 pp w/o tax or drinks. I'm a vegetarian, but seafood is okay. Not a wine drinker, but a good beer list would be nice. We have a car, but don't really want to drive more than 30-40min away.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations!
Oh - and would appreciate any recs for excellent desserts/ice cream/bakeries!

  1. Pita Jungle is a local chain that is very vegetarian friendly. The Chandler location is one of the better ones.

I like Angel Sweet for gelato. They use a lot of hazel nuts.

    I'd like to try Chodang.

    1. Second Angel Sweet. Cork in south Chandler is very good. For a simple but very good lunch I would do Los Taquitos on Eliot in Ahwautukee and try Carne Asada tacos. For breakfast I recommend Hillside Spot in Ahwautukee and Over Easy in east Phoenix. That's a bit of a drive depending where in Chandler you're staying but it's almost all freeway. Cyclo is very good Vietnamese and Lee's Sandwiches for lunch is great. Try one of the Vietnamese Bahn Mi and ask for extra meat. Awesome. I'd go to Phoenix Ranch Market in Mesa for one lunch. It's part of a chain of Hispanic markets with all kinds of food options including made to order fish tacos. Finally, Fleming's in Chandler for happy hour turned into a meal. Although I've mentioned several meat recommendations all of these places work for your diet. Fleming's happy hour in particular. We took our son and daughter in law there recently and she eats the same as you. Feasted on calimari and ahi tuna sliders. Good wines, beer and martini's at an excellent price.

      1. I would send you to Essence Bakery in Tempe for breakfasts - lunches -- world-class croissants and macarons, local and seasonal organic produce in their salads and sandwiches. Another good veggie-friendly lunch option would be Cornish Pasty Company nearby -- very homey food in a pub atmosphere, open late, lots of English pints on tap. Wildflower Bread Company would be another good brunch-lunch option close to you, but I would pick the Hillside Spot over it.

I believe the head chef is currently in Croatia with the owners, but Caffe Boa in Tempe would still be the best dinner option near you. They are a Mediterranean/locavore bistro downtown on Mill Ave.

Couple of brewpubs with good food: SanTan Brewery in downtown Chandler and Four Peaks Brewing Company near ASU.

        1. These all sound like great recs - thank you! Will try to narrow things down, and will definitely hit up Essence Bakery, as I love macarons.
I think we will also try to have a nicer dinner one of the nights. From reading the boards, I was debating between FnB, Binkley's, and Noca. By "nicer," I mean excellent food - doesn't have to be fancy or romantic. Thoughts?

Just to give you a heads up FnB's last dinner service before their summer break will be July 26th. They gave us a heads up when we had to change our reservation to the 25th. It'll be our first visit. Very excited!

Binkley's will reportedly be on summer break during your stay. I would make arrangements for Noca ASAP.

if you're looking for excellent food, bypass all of the restaurants you mentioned and opt for Cork(in S. Chandler). it isn't quite as expensive as Noca, and the food is AMAZING. it doesn't hurt that they're super-friendly and not pretentious in the least.
