Mission: Restaurant to win her back!

Simple just as the title reads. I messed up and its been a month since I broke it off (we've been together 2 and a half years and lived with eachother for 1 and a half), she has feelings for me but is unsure and afraid so she has a "wall" up and isn't taking me back as easily as I thought. She a very strong and stubborn independent woman and I love her to death and she finally agreed to a date, my time to shine and try to reconnect with her and get her back in my life.

I'm pulling out all the stops, I guess you can say? This is all a surprise, I'm taking her out on a great date on the 13th here is the plan: She never went to her prom so I arranged a limo to pick us up at 6 from her place (I told her I'm driving and we are going to eat) bought a corsage to match her dress then some appetizers and maybe a drink, then bought tickets to a show on king st (rock of ages) after the show I want to do a sit down dinner and end the night with dropping her and having flowers ready that will be in the limo already. Hope it works.

Heres my dilemma, where to get appetizers on king close to the show, walking distance? Where to take her to eat that will blow her away yet not blow my wallet out of my pocket (Budget for dinner $120-140 for both) and a place that we can talk. Are these in the right order or should I do Dinner, show then appetizers?

Thanks,
JSP

      1. Folks, please try to keep posts focused on restaurants. Relationship advice is off-topic.

        1. What time does the show start and end? What type of restaurant are you looking for? (Food... atmosphere...) Sounds as though you will be dressed fairly formally, is that right?

Limo is picking us up at 6pm and show starts at 8pm ending around 10pm I believe, we will be dressed up fairly formal and we are both in our late 20's. So any clues on where to eat?

            1. re: JSP3031

Given that you want to eat dinner after the show, I would suggest Le Select. It's reasonably close and is a very nice French bistro, and more importantly, it's open late. :)

For apps and drinks before the show, you could hit the lounge at Monsoon, or perhaps the bar at one of the boutique hotels nearby (e.g., Hotel le Germain or the Soho Metropolitan).

Le Select sounds like a good option. Looking at their website, the hours on a Tuesday night (the night of the OP's date), they offer a "late night menu" from 10:00 pm to 11:00 pm. I am assuming the kitchen closes at 11, but I'm not sure what time the restaurant closes. The OP may wish to check this out first, to determine if there's enough time for dinner and chatting after the show.

Thanks for the input so far :). I narrowed to Le select and Ultra and I changed the times. I want to have dinner before the show, so limo is now picking us up at 5pm and after the show we do cocktails near by. Reason for my picks because seems like it would be nice during that time of day and we will be sitting down for dinner around 6 which will igve us time to chat and most places their kitchens closed at 10pm. I need a great little place for drinks afterward not too noisy tho, oh and keep in ind it will be after 10pm.
                    Thanks again :)

That sounds better... The way it was arranged originally, it would have been hard to squeeze dinner in before or after.

The upper patio at Ultra is quite luxe...better food at Le Select...Marimba!

Any sugguestions on some places to grab a drink or two after the show?

If you still have the limo you might have it take you uptown to the Roof bar at the Park Hyatt Hotel. Lovely view of the city from the Rooftop patio. Also, while I prefer the perhaps slightly more staid/refined atmosphere at the Hyatt, Panorama has a similarly impressive view and it might be more fun for 20-somethings out on second prom!

Rooftop bar is a great recommendation. If it's raining, the interior would make a perfect late-night spot for casual, intimate conversation.

I was thinking of a rooftop bar also, maybe Panorama at the top of the Manulife Centre. At the end of the night, to seal the deal (or maybe morning after) you have to end it like every prom: a sunrise breakfast at an all-night diner. Maybe the new "diner style" restaurant at Thompson Toronto Hotel.

                              2. re: Rabbit

I second Rabbit's recommendations for drinks afterwards. The Rooftop Bar and Panorama are really nice . Both have amazing views.

What about Splendido? It's romantic enough, and the prices aren't as bad as they use to be. For something like this, I really like Scaramouche; they have valet parking, which may impress more than a limo; there's no music so you can have a nice conversation, the view is great, uber romantic imo. Only problem is price. The Dining Room is nicer, but a meal with wine is usually $300 tax and tip in; you can get away with $200 at the Pasta Bar and Grille though. I know it's more than your $140, but it's the best restaurant to have these kinds of dinners in.

But aside from Scaramouche, Le Select is a good alternative; good food, but might not have the "wow" factor that you seem to be going for.

I agree with Stoned... now that you're going for early dinner you can probably choose something with more "wow" than Le Select.

I haven't been to the new Splendido but it's reputation has always been stellar. Nota Bene is quite near the theatre. Canoe or George are probably over-budget but they are classic splurge restaurants... Canoe for its fantastic view and George for its patio. Does your date have any food like/dislikes that would sway your restaurant choice?

OMG, Yes! The patio at George would be really great for this. I've always had great experiences at George; they cleaned the snow off my car, and shoveled a path to my car one winter while I ate...talk about a random surprise! Let us know what happened whichever place to choose.

Canoe might work for drinks. Spectacular view, especially at night. Note: They close at 10:30 though :(
