Balimore Aquarium Tomorrow. Need food before and after torture.

I was thinking about Faidleys for brunch. Then aquarium probably from 1-4. Any suggestions for dinner? Nothing fancy, just really damn good. I will eat anything that will fit in my mouth if it is homemade and delicious. A killer pit beef or Italian or Mexican joint perhaps? Something that we can't get down here in the DC metro area. I am willing to drive a bit of course.

I could retitle this post as WWSE. Where would Steve eat?

Have a great weekend all. Thanks for any heads up for manana.

If you want to have some fun, take the group to Dick's Last Resort, where the servers are hilariously obnoxious. This just opened up last weekend.
The food is not amazing, but the atmosphere is funny.

Chipparelli's in Little Italy is probably the best Italian spot. A lot of people rave about Sabatino's...I wasn't impressed. Della Notte is also decent.

Does Chipparelli's make all their own pasta? I'll take a look at the website. Thanks.

I would skip Chipparelli's which was great in the 1970's but not any longer. Take a water taxi from the harbor over to Fells Point and walk around and drink/eat, Pizza at Brick Oven Pizza, Mussels at Bertha's and many more choices . leave room for desert and then take another water taxi back to the harbor and walk a few blocks to little italy and have deserts at Vacarro's Italian Pastry Shop Restaurant.

You'd do well to check these boards for inner harbor eats. The topic has been discussed...and discussed.....I'd say you'd do well to take the BW Pkwy home to DC, and stop at Grace Garden along the way. (Very long thread on GG here, to give you an idea.)

But stop at Faidley's for the best crabcake in the universe before the WhaleJail.

Miss Shirley's on East Pratt for brunch
            http://www.missshirleys.com/direction...
Ryleigh's Oyster Bar in Federal Hill - walkable less than a mile or five minutes in the car. Cheap parking in the Cross St. garage.

Avoid the tourist traps of Little Italy, including the two mentioned above.
Grace Garden would be a great choice on the way back to DC.

Without adding to the food recs, I suggest getting to the Aquarium before they open the doors, rather than the afternoon. It will be wall-to-wall people starting about noon.

My m.o. with the kids has always been to get there before they open, see the earliest dolphin show possible, and then have a later lunch.

WWSE? Grace Garden, especially for the fish noodles and spicy tofu pockets (from the regular menu) or the fish which is fileted, sauteed with vegetables, and the carcass is deep fried so you can eat the whole thing, bones and all. I think this is a special order, though, and don't know if it's too late to order or even what the name of the dish is.

Pioneer Pit Beef is outrageously good. This is a shack underneath the highway, and there is no place to eat there, so this is a kind of side trip. Medium rare, either straight or with tiger sauce. The last time I went, I just got a pound of beef to carry away. It doesn't get very far.

My third rec is Bill's Terrace Inn if you are into crab pickin'. But it's not a cheap activity and if you don't get there when they open at 4pm, there could be a significant wait. This is the kind of pure Baltimore experience that is all but gone.

There's some great recs above, especially Grace Garden. Another possibility would be to head down Eastern avenue and stop at Zorba's in Little Italy for awesome Greek food, then hop on 95 for home from there.

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate it. I think it will most likely be Grace Garden (if she is in the mood that is).

I checked out Pioneer Pit Beef when that thread was active a while back. Loved that place. I could maybe do that as a snack on our way to Faidleys. Haha!!!

What a day! We had an interesting crabcake at Faidleys. Crabby, large, microwaved, I am sure there are better versions but it was a really fun experience. We also couldn't pass up one of the fried chicken stands with ultra crispy fried chicken and homemade creamy mac and cheese.

Din din: Grace Garden. Talk about DDD material. Way the hell out in nowhere. Super sweet family and amazing food. We went with the fish noodles, sichuan belly and the tofu pockets. We loved all three. We already want to go back and try the 3-day old duck and the spicy fish.

Thanks for the great recommendations. Happy Sunday!
