Any good eats between South Bend IN and Grand Rapids MI?
Need a place for dinner in the Southwestern part of Michigan. I'm familiar with New Buffalo and the Warren Dunes but is there anything interesting in the area for a nice, casual dinner? Thanks for your help!

Traveling the most direct route from South Bend, you won't be going anywhere near New Buffalo or Michigan City, which are further west than your route up US-31 to Benton Harbor and I-196 from there to Grand Rapids.
Right off I-196 in Saugatuck/Douglas, Everyday People Cafe is absolutely FABULOUS, as good as anything in Grand Rapids (or even Chicago). They specialize in local food and everything is just amazingly delicious. It started as a very casual cafe (which it still is) that got popular because the son of the owner went to culinary school and they decided to start serving a more creative menu. They expanded into the space next door and the rest is history. Beware, they don't accept reservations, and waiting times for a table can be lengthy during the summer in this resort community, especially on weekends. I posted a detailed report about one of my meals there in the first of the two links below, so you can read about how great it is. DON'T MISS IT. www.everydaypeoplecafe.com

I haven't been there so I can't say for sure but a lot of people have been saying nice things about Wheatberry Restaurant in Buchanan,Michigan north of the city on Red Bud trail. We are going there for dinner Sunday so I can speak better after that.I suppose in the Michiana area that is about the newest restaurant that has been getting positive feedback.Otherwise in the search function many of the other restaurants are listed.Good Luck.
Friday night we had excellent wood oven pizza at Stop 50 Pizza in Michiana Shore,Indiana right before Michigan City just off of route 12.
