Soup dumplings near Times Square / West 30s and 40s

  • 8

I'm really wanting soup dumplings and I'm trying to find a place to go grab some for lunch. I work near Times Square / Port Authority and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a place nearby? I know it's a bit of a culinary wasteland here, so they don't need to be fantastic, just decent.

  1. i think that the closed place would be Evergreen Shanghai. I like ES and think it is somewhat underrated.

it is not right near you but not too far either.

    1. John's Shangai is on 46th between 6th & 7th. I think most people agree its pretty awful ( http://www.yelp.com/biz/johns-shangha... ), but you're not going to get much better.

      1. John's Shanghai on 46th is probably the closest to your needs but they were pretty mediocre when I tried them. The skins were really thick.

I'm with you bookhound. In fact i think mediocre is even generous

They really weren't very good it's been a long time since I've had them so perhaps my memory of their badness has faded. The thick skins I will not ever forget. They were guotie thick.

The last time i was there (it was over a year ago) but i had half a dumpling. that was alli could stomach. it was just unappealing for me.

        2. Is Ollie's on 42nd just not worth considering? I looked at their menu and saw they have soup dumplings...

Is that the Sichuan Ollie's? Just west of 9th Ave? I've not had the soup dumplings there, but I've liked everything I've had, which is just the Sichuan stuff, spicy mung bean noodles and the like. It may be your best bet.
