My dad and I noticed this place a couple of times coming back from watching my cousin play baseball in Lavalette this summer; I think we're going to check it out tonight. Let's see how it holds up to the Newark joints I know so well from college.

I've been to Brasas BBQ to take out many times for their great ribs, steaks, chix, etc, etc, ...always excellent !..Stopped in again for lunch today they only have 3 tables as most is take out & had the most delicious Hamburgers we ever. had...cooked perfect on their hugh Rodizio BBQ grill with their special rub on a nice soft Portuguese Roll, with a side of crisp Sweet Potato fries & their house hot sauce on the side to dip.
The charcoal smell in this place permeates the air all over the parking lot always soooo good!-

We had a chance to have dinner at Brasas Portuguese BBQ tonight and it was quite a treat. as you pull into the parking lot you can start to smell the aroma of BBQ wood and meats filling the air & something told me I'm going to enjoy this meal and I was right. This place does an enormous take out business and being a weekend we made our way thru the crowd and sat down at a table, it's a very casual place...it's a small with a big take out counter where you can see all the meats rotating on the unique BBQ skewers...
with maybe 4 or 5 four tops inside we were lucky to get one for dinner. My daughters and I started with the BOLAS DE BACALHAU.... Crispy fried codfish croquettes (pictured) almost like a potato croquette very flavorful & a light dipping sauce. Next we ordered the family style Baby Back Rib Platter with Sweet Potato Fries and Yellow Rice..these were some of the best ribs I've had in a long while coated with a fantastic Seasoned Dry Rub left me sucking the bones.....the fries also were crispy and well seasoned...yellow rice fluffy & had a slight hint of flavor I couldn't figure out that was just right. Then we ordered the Garlic Shrimp which was swimming a delicious garlic sauce just perfect for the soft Portuguese rolls to sop up the juices...the sauteed potato, onions, carrots, peppers again very flavorful and not once did we have to put salt or pepper on anything served...throughout our dinner people kept streaming in to pick up orders........these guys have a great thing going for them and rightly so...unique, delicious, and very well executed..I will definitly be back again and again to keep trying all of the other dishes in the menu. Try it you'll like it...Toms River really needs some good restaurants and I know Brasas BBQ is becoming a welcome addition to the culinary scene here.....Enjoy !
