Good Chinese & Japanese nearby Olympic Village?
My family of 6 (me, wife, 2 small active kids under 4 yrs old, grandparents) are coming from Toronto to Vancouver next week to stay near the Olympic village area. We're looking for nearby places in these categories:
- Cantonese Seafood - what's in season now that's local and fresh?
- Mainland China food - sichuan, shanghai, etc
- Dim Sum
- Japanese AYCE
- Izakaya
- Ramen
Also, my wife and I loved Momofuku ssäm Bar in NYC, but is Bao Bei anything similar and is bringing my 2 young kids a good idea (might need to bring the portable DVD player to subdue my 2 yr old girl).
I do have a mini van to get around, but it'll be good to know what's nearby where we are staying.

Ramen-Menya is close by.

If it's unique Japanese you want try Marulilu Cafe not an Izakaya or AYCE (which are never run by Japanese) but a quiet well run cafe offering both western and Japanese food.

Closest decent places are:
-Kirin at 12th/Cambie for dim sum and seafood,
-Peaceful Restaurant for pan-Mainland/Northern/Sichuan food (they do good hand-pulled noodles there. They are Xian)
-Shanghai Village
-Sam has already mentioned Menya....but not too far away is the Main St location of Benkei (which I believe closes at 6pm). I haven't been to this branch, but the downtown branch is good and consistent.
-For AYCE sushi - Shabusen on Granville St (which is also a Korean BBQ).
-for izakaya - (nothing in you area...go downtown to Robson and Denman). I would usually recommend the Guus - but I worry about your young-uns. The Guus are pretty frenetic and tightly packed. Hapa has a more subdued atmosphere and it has more room for the kids and accoutrments.
Bao Bei has a similar intent to Momofuku's, but will fall short in comparison.

For an izakaya-ish experience without heading downtown, OP could roll up Main to 25th and check out the Zakkushi there. They have more nooks and crannies, sorta calmer, maybe a bit more kid friendly? I haven't been to the Hapa in Kits -- it would be closer but is it good for smalls?

Oooo, I like the Clubhouse rec for the kids! I think I would have been quite tickled by that place when I was little, and OP can order one okonomiyaki for the table. They'll be stuffed.
