Local eats in south or west San Antonio?
Hey! We're heading down to San Antonio this weekend to visit my mother-in-law. We adore the King William district (Rosarios, Liberty Bar and Grill), but she actually lives in an Air Force retirement center south and west of the city. Trekking into downtown may not be the easiest thing. Any recs for local treasures on the south or west side of San Antonio? Much obliged!

There won't be anything truly spectacular, but...
I used to work out there and would get breakfast tacos at Garibaldi's. It is in an Econo Lodge across from some of the bases off Highway 90. Anything goes for breakfast in San Antonio. I love the carne guisada with cheese or beef fajita with guac... for breakfast? you feel a little guilty, but happy as hell. The salsa for dine-in is a crime... a hot watered down ranchera or something... terrible, but the green salsa for breakfast tacos is great and spicy. I have dined in too... great flour tortillas. BEWARE, they use American Cheese like many Tex Mex joints in San Antonio. I find it disgusting, but many love it. Enchiladas at Garibaldi are therefore off limits IMO.
If you take 90 out to 1604 and go right (N) take the Marbach exit and then the first left. There is a place called Apetito's (I think) which is only open for lunch... I get the Mucho Grande plate (with a Diet Coke) that has 3 cheese enchiladas, a chaulpa and and a puffy taco... if my memory serves me right. The biggest lunch you have ever seen. I truly miss this place. Lots of cops due to who owns it, so don't go if you are "wanted."
Lastly, is one of the most famous Tex Mex places in San Antonio, that most people don't get to visit. It is Karam's (off Zarzamora on the West Side) and you will see it debated on this site. I don't recommend it by San Antonio standards but it is some people's FAVORITE place, so if you are over there why not check it out?
FYI: Downtown is probably 5 or 10 minutes MAX from where you will be, so you might want to go back to Rosarios or others. But for breakfast, go for Garibaldi and for lunch Apetito's!
Enjoy!
