re: montitrentini
Was definitely mayhem there today- was hard to find a parking spot during the day, and it was still pretty crowded when I went back at 7:30pm. Was worth the trip tho. TJ's burrata - 8oz for $5!! And it's good! I'm pretty sure that's half the price of Wholefoods, Sickles, and the Cheese Cave! Paired it with some toasted ciabatta, arugula, salami, and olive oil- what an unexpected treat for dinner.

Any word on if they would be selling wine and beer? Some of the TJ Reserve labels are about $5 - $9 and fantastic. The Reserve Pinot Noir last spring was just awesome. I have a feeling I will still have to trek to Westfield for it.

re: DinnerChick11
My perception (based on one store in Massachusetts) is that some of what they have is very reasonably priced, and some is not. It may just be that I don't appreciate what the high-priced items are giving me, but I think one has to pick and choose.
Then again, that's probably true of most stores. :-(

Someone is doing a lot of work to that space in Shrewsbury, but they are still not giving any info away on TJ's website. I have my fingers crossed.

re: loveeatin
I heard that TJ had make some inquiries about the former Pathmark location on Rt 9 and Rt 537, but they were going to hold out to see what happened with Whole Foods directly on the other side of 9. My assumption is that once the new shopping center breaks ground, the former Pathmark shopping center will make plans for a much needed shopping center renovation and TJ would then consider it. The size is good for TJs and with WF potentially going across the street, the "center" of Marlboro shopping would shift slightly away from Wegman's/Target making this forgotten area which once was the heart of Marlboro shopping (early 1990s), more valuable. So it would be a good decision in my opinion.

re: VJLA
A correction: it's at the junction of 9 & 520. Also, with the closing of the A&P (on 79) and Pathmark, there are now no supermarkets in Marlboro. Both Wegmans and Foodtown are in Manalapan.

re: RGR
It's in reorg bankruptcy (I forget which chapter that is). Both the Marlboro store and the Old Bridge one are still open.
I also thought of the Shop-Rite but frankly I can never remember exactly where all these boundaries are, and they're actually pretty meaningless. The Shop-Rite in Aberdeen is closer to me than the one in Old Bridge, eve though I live in Old Bridge.
Does anyone know if the Asian grocery talked about for the old Acme on Route 79 has opened yet?

my thoughts , EXACTLY, when I noticed that shuttered PATHMARK on Route 9, Marlboro, near my sis's house the other week... and neat to know that I was'nt the ONLY one thinking it..
...in fact, I even mentioned to her "wow, that would be a gr8 place for a Trader Joes"...
(she was not even familiar with Trader Joe's, but I told her she probably WOULD BE soon !!) I was even planning ot write to Trader Joe's as well...-----

Great! Now all we need is a Fairway! Please, Steve Jenkins, tell Howard Glickberg, Harold Seybert, and David Sneddon that Fairway would fly in Monmouth County. There's a perfect space on Rt. 79 in Marlboro, close to Rt. 18, that would be perfect for Fairway.

I emailed Trader Joe's. They replied with "no comment". They did say that new openings will be posted on their website: http://www.traderjoes.com/stores/comi...

I was in the Staples today and saw that they were doing major reconstruction. Guy told me that they are shifting around the store to give some of their space to Trader Joes. Said that it would take about two more weeks, and when they were done, construction would start on the TJ store! Looks like we'll have it by the end of the year.

re: charmel
Not nearly the flagship a Fairway would be but Top Tomato (finally) opened this weekend in Holmdel. Did anyone other than myself make their way thru the crazy crowded parking lot and store on Sunday? The number of cart holders really messed up the parking area. I was a bit disappointed by the produce quality. Anyone else get there?

re: HillJ
Top Tomato actually opened up on Thursday and I went on Friday which was crowded but not over whelming. Have to agree with you in general the pricing is all over the place and so is the quality. If you pick and choose you can get a good deal but if not careful you may end up getting the short end of the stick.

I know they are planning on redeveloping Peddler's Village in Wall (same co. did Brook 35). But most plans have stalled lately...so no TJ's there (boo). The TJ's is going to be in Shrewsbury, but not for a while. http://www.redbankgreen.com/2010/07/t...

Now my wife is hearing from people in the neighborhood that Trader Joe's has changed plans and will not be opening a store in Shrewsbury as reported previously.
Also she tells me she checked the TJ webpage, and a Shrewsbury store is not listed as 'coming soon' (not sure if it ever was, but it's not there now).
Anyone know what's going on with this ? First it was rumored to be in Red Bank, then down near Wall/Manasquan circle, then Shrewsbury, and now this ! Is TJ's coming to Monmouth County or not ?

The Asbury Park Press reported today that it will be in Shrewsbury, in the strip mall with Staples and Boston Market, across the street from Panera.

re: tom246
There was an article in the Press yesterday. TJs opening in strip mall next to the Eastern Branch library...next door to Staples. It will not carry liquor. Which it probably could not have anyway since there is already a liquor store in that strip.
Supposed to be opened "before the end of the year"
