Oxtail Pho in OC

groover808 Jul 7, 2010 05:44 PM

I recently had oxtail pho at Pho Vie off of the 405 and Beach. The oxtail was delicious but the soup a tad to sweet, and just ok. I'm taking the bf and his friends to oxtail pho soon, any other places in Little Saigon area that serve awesome oxtail pho?

    Reporting back:

First off Pho Vie: My first experience with oxtail pho, soup is on the sweeter side. They give you 2 big chunks of oxtail with the large order.

Pho Lu: I guess this isn't true oxtail (actually made with beef these days), but more like shank cut? The meat is really meltingly tender that falls off the bone. The oxtail pho comes in two bowls, the noodles and broth, and a seperate bowl with the meat with some liquid. Soup was nice, and the large is gargantuan, you could probably order a large and order a side bowl of noodles and share the meat for 2.

I preferred Pho Lu's version and will come back again and again for their oxtail pho. The meat is more tender and lean, without all the fat and gelatin of the true oxtail at Pho Vie. Whatever Pho Lu's meat is, it's damn good. By the way, it's not on Pho Lu's menu, just order pho dui bo.

      Yo, groover808

      Try the oxtail pho at:

      Pho Thanh Lich
      14500 Brookhurst St.
      Westminster, CA 92683

Very much to my satisfaction. Fair portion size as well.

Wow! That sounds like a good bowl of pho except for the sweetness. I wonder if there's somewhere in San Gabriel or Chinatown that has oxtail pho also?
