How long will uncooked crab and defrosted soft shells last?

Recently bought lump crabcakes (uncooked) and softshells. The softshells were defrosted but i am now going to re-freeze them. The cakes are still in the fridge. 6 days too long?

  1. Yep. Too long. I would think 2 days, tops.

    1. Two Days would be tops for me too....Provided your refrigerator is <40* F.

      1. So the crabcakes were made with uncooked crabmeat?
If you're talking about blue crab, they are cooked before they are picked, so I would think your cakes would be made with cooked crabmeat even if the cakes themselves still need to be fried or baked, in which case, if they're well-refrigerated, they will probably be ok for 3-4 days. The woman I buy crabmeat from always tells me it keeps well in the fridge for at least 5 days; it has never lasted that long, but I'm sure she knows what she's talking about.

Excellent point.....Something else to think about...Were they bought pre packaged? If so, are there any Use By/Sell By/Best if used by dates on the package...If they were bought out of a service meat/seafood case (unwrapped) Then the question is..How long had the retailer had them on display....................
