I think they are opening a Portos in the area this summer.

They are, and there's also an existing, quite good Cuban bakery called Tropicana on (I think) Paramount Blvd.
There are two branches of the superlative torta ahogada shop called La Chiva Loca (the crazy nanny-goat). This is where you get the hellfire Cinco de Mayo answer to a French dip... meat and maybe cheese in a bolillo roll, then dipped (media ahogada) or drenched (bien ahogada) in fiery guajillo salsa.
Very near Downey, in Huntington Park there's Pal Cabrón, which specialises in cemitas poblanas (an enormous sandwich on a sesame-studded roll—make sure you get quesillo, or Oaxacan string cheese on whatever you order), clayudas (enormous crispy tortillas spread with porky black beans, then topped with queso fresco, shredded cabbage and whatever you order: try cecina y quesillo) and tacos árabes (think shawarma, pita and all, but with a chile kick to it).
