Drinks before DBGB dinner

I'm taking DH to DBGB for his 45th birthday. Where is a nearby bar that we can get a drink before hand and actually hear each other talk? Doesn't have to be anything fancy. Thanks all.

      Temple Bar just over on Lafayette (btwn Bleecker and Houston) could be nice for a quick cocktail. It's close and they have great drinks.

        Temple Bar is probably the best choice if you're looking for a quiet bar. Madame Geneva at Double Crown isn't bad either but it's become a bit of a scene lately so it's not quiet but it's not particularly loud either. The other benefit to Madame Geneva is that it is almost directly across the street from DBGB.

          Yes I chose it in part because I've heard the beer list is excellent. But we may want to get something prior to...
