lunch and early dinner in chelsea on a work break
Hi Hounds- I'm going to be working in Chelsea (20th and 7th) for the next couple of weeks and am looking for some fast but delicious meals in the 'hood. I'll be flying solo, so think cheap and cheerful. I'll generally eat at 1 or 2 in the afternoon and 6 or 7 at night. Since they're work breaks, I don't want to spend much. $10 a meal(no drink) is up my alley. Thanks for any advice!

Thanks for the suggestions! Tebaya looks like it fits the bill! I'll also check out Pongsri. The others are a bit far and might take too much time getting back and forth, but good to have filed away for future needs!

I think the best sushi (not life-altering, but solid) sushi in the area is Momoya on 20th and 7th, right near you. It's a very pleasant place to eat in, or you can take out. Tebaya, on 19th between 6th and 7th, has fantastic Japanese chicken wings (really) and other tasty dishes over rice. Plus, your lunch special at Tebaya comes with a free drink (including their homemade ice teas.) Sirtaj, on 26th between 6th and Bway, is a great hole in the wall Indian place. I love their tandoori chicken special. Very inexpensive. Hill Country, right next door, can be cheap if you order right, and might be a fun afterwork place for you to hang out. RUB on 23rd and 7th has an amazing burger special, only on Mondays. If you get stuck there's always Whole Foods on 24th and 7th to take out (no cafe at that location)

re: eeee
Hill Country has great fatty brisket. the jalapeno sausage is good too. Everything is by the pound. the sides are good too, corn pudding, bean caviar, sweet potatoes . The ribs i didnt like too much ,pretty tough. But Hill country is a good bbq spot. Fette Sau in brooklyn is better though

Ichiban for sushi (between 23rd and 24th on 7th) is good and reasonable.
Garden of Eden (23rd/7th Ave), Whole Foods (24th/7th Ave) and Wrapido (23rd betweeen 7th and 6th) have good sandwiches/wraps.
KooFoo Korean Rice Bar (26/27th Street and 8th Avenue) is very reasonable and has good daily specials, bimibop and spicy tuna roll. Its too small to eat-in though but there is a park down the block towards 9th Ave as well as places to sit and eat by FIT towards 7th ave.
Salumeria Biellese (27th and 8th) has good italian lunch specials/hero's.
Suprema (30th and 8th) has good pizza
Pongsri Thai (23rd &6th) has good lunch specials
Dallas BBQ on 23rd & 8th is cheap and alot of people like their burgers, chicken/chicken sandwiches and wings
