Sonoma's Best (ex-location of Fig Pantry)

There's a new operation, four-week-old Sonoma's Best, in the location in Sonoma of the late and lamented Fig Pantry. It's a smaller operation with fewer and very well-chosen items, from milk, butter, and eggs to Michoacana ice cream (a few flavors), Blue Bottle coffee, and paninis. I had the panini with roast beef, blue cheese, carmelized onions, etc., and it was very good. They'll expand as they see the need and demand.

I stopped by last week to check it out. This could be a good spot for grab-and-go sandwiches and salads, prepacked for quick service in the self-serve refrigerator case, alongside other picnic items.

I tried a different roast beef sandwich, dressed with artichokes and olive spread on a very good ciabatta roll, $6.99. Popular priced, and I liked the taste of the condiments. But the roast beef itself had a cheap, preserved, processed supermarket taste and i couldn't eat it. So I pulled it out and just ate the bread with the artichokes and spread sitting outside on this lovely day.

Also note that while the produce is touted as local, the tomatoes have stickers on them that say "Canada". Our season is late this year, so hopefully this will change soon.
