We went to Ubuntu this last Saturday night. It had been the first time we had eaten there since Jeremy Fox left. We really loved his cooking and were a bit concerned about how the food would be after he left. The good news is that they have maintained the high standard he set and the food was delicious. As in the past, the service was excellent and I really like the atmosphere here.
Here is what we ate:
Gazpacho with melon- tasted fresh and vibrant with the perfect hint of vinegar. Refreshing start of the meal.
Sardinian flatbread (Pane Carasau) with a garden salad and truffled cheese on top. They used to call this Carta de Musica. Excellent.
A dish with cheese and a lightly sweet chocolate cake. For me this was the only miss of the evening. It was just ok. Did not add up to the sum of its parts. Overall kind of dull tasting. Perhaps a hint of red pepper and acidity might have helped.
Oxhart Carrots- Maybe the best carrot dish I have ever eaten. The carrots were very flavorful and sweet, almost like good sweet potatoes.
Potatoes with alliums with a fava bean pesto. Another standout. The potatoes were buttery delicious and the fava pesto was really flavorful.
Tcho Chocolate dessert. An excellent chocolate soufflé with bitter almond icecream. I am very picky about chocolate desserts. This one was very chocolaty, perfectly moist and deeply satisfying.

Agreed, I went for the first time since Fox left, 2 weeks ago. I was a big fan of his and was skeptical, but left being impressed and satisfied. If anything, the plating was more "artful" than before and the dishes perhaps even heartier. The menu needed some deciphering due to jargon, but the staff willingly translated.
