July Vacations/Renovation Closings

I'm working on a piece on the traditional July Vacations and renovations in area restaurants.

Here are a couple to get us started, but I'd love to include what the rest of you have seen or discovered.

Flour Bakery & Cafe on Washington is closed for renovations-"reopening on 7/8 at 7am."

Hamersley is closed closed until July 7th.

Pho Basil on Mass Ave is closed today and tomorrow and they could use a few visits from lovers of good food to keep them busy until the Berklee students return.

Shanghai Gate will be closing for a week's vacation, July 27 through August 3.

Drink in Fort Point is closed July 21-27. You'll notice a lot of your favorite craft bartenders around town missing from similar venues for the same reason: they're all at Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans.

Farm Grill in Newton appeared to be closed when I drove by on Wednesday around 5:45pm although I couldn't see whether there was a sign indicating when they would re-open. I suggest calling ahead before heading over there.

Probably not a July opening, but Laurel has been sold; it will be the new home of Geoffrey's Back Bay. Good news for me, as I quite liked the South End original (the Back Bay location, not so much), and don't get to Rozzie very often.

Drove by Lumière in West Newton yesterday and saw ladders. Their website confirms they are closed through this Friday, July 9.

Drove by Carlo's Cucina in Allston yesterday and they were renovating or something (no tables, just ladders). Sign in the window unreadable from car. No one is answering the phone and the web site has no information. Maybe someone who walks by there and can read the sign could update us.

Based on past years some possible July vacations include Royal Pastry in Cambridge (usually just a week around 7/4), Izzy's (longer vacation), Courthouse (usually very brief around 7/4). I think the Snack Bar usually takes some time in August (two weeks??) and like Umberto's they sometimes raise prices when they come back.

As always, Galleria Umberto closed yesterday and won't open again until after August 1. Luckily, I thought to get over there in late June this year.
