Went to Galveston Texas in April love this town it has a small town feeling but yet close to Houston and the people are just good folks I must say but had to go where everyone says "you must eat" Sunflower is ok the breads and pastries are good but it is pricey the main people are locals that are upper class and vacationers that have beach homes there, second was Mosquito cafe the food is good reminds me more of the orange county california style nothing fried there but the fried eggs it is good food there and very popular with the tourist and locals but anything you get is tasty Chef Hector knows his job and place in life, The original Mexican resturant not too impressed too bland no flavor to me but yet I like the tex-mex more so if your not into spicy go there but the Apacie Mexican resturant off the strand I really enjoyed and talked to the cook and people were friendly as well, there is a new resturant that is more for "Date night type the 901 it is off the corner of market and 9th street it was a house they turned into a resturant $$$ but good and like I said it is a date night or romantic setting for a couple trying to lite up the night off the corner behind the UTMB parking garage is is a little place Smooth Tony's here is a good lunch stop off 9th street the price is right and the place is comfy with a good menu now another place to enjoy is off Oave shrimp n stuff if you like fried this is your man everything is fried there and a local favorite place to go the price is right and the atmosphere is just as good people talk to you here and give you ideas to go and see. DiBella's Italian Restaurant 1902 31st St. Galveston, TX 77550 take ave. O and go here for good Italian place to eat also kid friendly as well it is hidden but worth the visit, another new resturant is Nada 408 20th st near the strand try the evening time cause one is is hard to find there is a sign but no direction to where the front is and second during the day it is impossible to find parking because of the professional buildings around with their marked parking spaces and then top it off Galveston is talking about returning parking meters I tried it once not impressed but not to say I wont go back again sure with any new place all the bugs have to be worked out and fine tune everything I say give it a try and see for yourself the manager there was nice and ok to visit with but they are happy with the spanish speaking arena of people. Another is Star Drug this is a fun place and takes you back the owners are great and family runed it is a pleasure to go here to visit and eat, The stork club and the Gumbo family friendly and nice price to eat with a large amount of food so go hungry I say but both are enjoyable both price and food. Dutch Kettle 3600 Seawall Blvd now think of Mels diner off Alice and you have the Dutch this is a good place after being in the hotel and want a good breakfast on the cheap or a late night meal or even a place that is close to the beach with ten kids ready to eat staff is hilarious eachtime I went just home cooking here nothing fancy. Like greek food
Olympia The Grill is the place OMG the gyro salad is the best, cajun your style? Leo's Cajun Corner has some darn good smoked chicken and boudin is good and the staff is just great to be around.
These places are local favs and easy on the pocket book when your just visiting there.
Have Fun and enjoy.
Glad you enjoyed Galveston. We like Benno's on the seawall, mainly the cajun crabs and griled oysters. A little constructive critisicsm, that post was hard to read with the lack of periods and commas. You have a lot to say, please slow down.
We too love Olympia Grill and Mosquito Cafe. My husband likes Sunflower but I've always found it and it's bakery lacking though their Challah bread is delicious.
So glad you enjoyed your visit to Galveston
