Shepherdstown, Berkeley Springs, Charlestown, WV: Where? 3 Onions, Press Room...

I was at the Yellow Brick Bank 25 years ago and have read too many critical reviews to consider returning. But 3 Onions and the Press Room sound intriguing as does a restaurant in Berkeley Springs that we happened on a year or so ago but didn't go, Lot 12 Public House. Is there anywhere in this area, east to Charles Town, that is really good? By, say, D.C. standards?

We eat at Tari's Cafe in Berkeley Springs, WV every time we go through there. It's a lovely place, decorated with local art work. And the food is amazing.

The Three Onions doesn't do dinners and the bar food is pretty ordinary. Good drinks, though. I would recommend the Press Room and/or Stone Soup Bistro for food. Lot 12 is a pretty good addition to Berkeley Springs, although pricey and I was underwhelmed by a few of my dishes there. A good alternative close to Shepherdstown is Dish in Charles Town - like Stone Soup, local and organic specialties. I don't get to DC much so I can't compare there but I have lived in Manhattan and Boston, and these are all good by those standards. None of them are fancy or foamy, though. For that, you have to go to Volt in Frederick!
