Anything open today (on July 4th)?

Nick F. Jul 4, 2010 08:08 AM

So, excuse my ignorance. But I'm in Soho, though I can go anywhere below 14th St. I like good food (though everyone made fun of me for going to Wo Hop :p). Mostly though, I'm just looking for some good place that's open below 14th St today for any/every meal. I'm a bachelor, so I ain't cooking.

Help me, humble hounds. Help me.

Thanks everyone. I ended up at two downscale places: Cowgirl for Lunch (ok, but filling/hangover-killing) and Main Noodle House for dinner (excellent). My only complaints about my dinner there were 1. too many green peppers in my Spicy Basil Chicken and 2. not enough rice per dish. Otherwise, it was unexpectedly good open for a July 4th.

Also, almost went to 10 Downing, which was open, for Brunch before I decided on Cowgirl. Figured the C-girl would be cheaper and it's more familiar. Guess I'm not much of a hound when I have a hangover... Any-hoot, gracias!

Check out opentable.com to get a sense of what's open and available today. You can search by neighborhood.

I can't speak to the quality of the food at bbar, suggested by out-of-towner Littleman, since I've never been there. He does like good food, though, so if he's been there and can vouch for it....

Cercle Rouge, on W. B'way, in Tribeca, is a French brasseries we like a lot. Delicious food, good wine list, friendly service, and very nice ambiance. A quick check of OpenTable shows they are open today.

B Bar was never known for their food or drinks. It was a trendy spot 5 to 10 years ago. I went for business drinks once a long time ago and it really wasn't anything to recommend. These days it seems only popular for their gay night on Tuesdays, otherwise I never hear anyone talk about it.

B Bar is a past-its-prime B&T bar with overpriced mediocre drinks and lousy food. Avoid.

Sit outdoors. Have a cold drink. Enjoy the weather. Good luck. Open today and tomorrow.
