Bayeux vicinty recs?

Fay Jul 3, 2010 12:11 PM

Can anyone recommend some great places for dinner in and around the area of Bayeux? We will be there for a few days next week, and so far, I haven't found many recommendations for that area specifically..... We will have a car, but prefer not to travel very far in the evenings for dinner, since we expect to be tired from long days of sightseeing, and will be hitting places such as Cancale (for oysters), Plancoet (for dinner at Crouzil) and other destinations in Brittany later in the trip.
Many thanks!

We enjoyed our lunch at La Rapière in Bayeux last October. I see on the internet that it gets lots of good reviews. Not haute cuisine, but good food at a reasonable price. It's listed in the Michelin guide.

Many years ago I was very disappointed at Crouzil's, and it lost a star after that; I haven't been back.

If you're going to the Morbihan, you might want to pick up the current issue of the Michelin magazine Étoile, which has an article about restaurants in that area.

Will second La Rapiere. Its been a few years but we had a couple of good meals there. There was also a place in the same area of town- I can't remember the name- just steps(south) off of the Rue St. Martin or Rue St. Jean (same street) that was a butcher shop with a restaurant. My wife and I were there with our 4 carnivore nieces, we enjoyed steak and frites.

Thanks for the recommendations and comments. Was the butcher shop/restaurant "La Table du Terroir?" I've seen that recommended in a few places.

Fay- I googled it and I think it is the same place. (there can't be two butcher shop restaurants in a small town like Bayeux eh?)
