Organic market near San Juan, Puerto Rico?

I will be visiting my in-laws in Puerto Rico on Thursday and would like to know if there are any markets near San Juan that carry organic fruits and vegetables. My in-laws live in Guaynabo, which is a suburb of San Juan. Thanks.

  1. I am from Guaynabo and no, you wont find anything organic, just basic supermarkets. (no wholefoods in PR) You can go to La Placita de Santurce, there you can get local and fresh produce.

Thanks for the information. It has been a couple of years since I last went to La Placita, but I still remember the delicious mango we purchased there and made into batidas. Time to go back.

    2. Mercado Agricultura Natural del Viejo San Juan
      Museo de Arte e Historia
Norzagaray St., front of La Perla.
      Old San Juan
      Every Saturday!
      makes deliveries

      Mercado Orgánico Madre Tierra
      Placita Roosevelt, Hato Rey
Every 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month

The Santurce market was depressing. Can't believe it can hold on with the advent of major supermarket chains and big box discounters in San Juan. I would skip this. The organic market on Saturdays in OSJ, off Plaza Colon, was small but fun. Get a cup of coffee at a cafe and then roam the (very few) stalls selling organice produce and candles.

      2. Alfredo's had organic chicken on their menu last night. Not sure whether The Intercontinental sources it locally or flies it in.
