Must Try in San Diego

Greetings fellow San Diego Chowhounds,

I was wonderin if anyone can recommend must try locations for dinner in the Gaslamp district or at least near to it. We are open to all ranges in caliber of establishment but want have something well known or unique in the San Diego area. Oh by the way we are coming from an area that is near the San Gabriel Valley which is well known for it's Chinese food. So we'd prefer food that is not Chinese since we get soo much of it. Thanks!
