Places to stop between Boston and Portland

Elizg Jul 2, 2010 09:02 AM

We're driving up to Portland for the weekend but want to make stops along the way, either on the way there or back. I'm looking for really good farms (with pick-your own, nice farm store, etc.) quality cafes/lunch spots, bakeries, even a small town if there is a fun one. Boston to Portland is straight up 95, so these spots would ideally be not more than 20 minutes off of 95. Any suggestions?

I agree that Portsmouth NH is a "must stop". For upscale you can't go wrong with the Black Trumpet http://www.blacktrumpetbistro.com/ . For an awesome lunch stop with tons of character and delicious burgers & dogs, Gilly's is it! http://www.gilleyspmlunch.com/

You cannot go wrong stopping to eat in downtown Portsmouth, NH. The restaurants are amazing. Just go to the downtown and walk around and go wherever your nose takes you!
