Hi folks! Vacationing in a couple weeks and my family would really enjoy some local cuisine...lowcountry fare. Do you have any rec's ....budget friendly?

Kiawah or Charleston. There are hundreds of restaurants in Charleston. Less in Kiawah. What area are you most interested in.

Folly and John's Island are between Charleston and Kiawah. Where are you most interested.

Rita's Grill in Folly is a good burger joint. Sit outdoors and drink something cold.

    Rita's Grill @ 2 Center St., Folly Beach, SC 843 - 633 - 5330.

Sunrise Bistro on John's Island is on your way to Kiawah. SB is a casual place for breakfast or lunch. Boulevard Diner is also on your way to Kiawah between Charleston and Kiaway serving some good comfort food. It will be busy.

    Sunrise Bistro @ Suite A, 1797 Main Road, Johns Island, SC 843 - 718 - 1858.

    Boulevard Diner @ 1978 Maybank Hwy., Charleston, SC 843 - 795 - 8983.

JB's Smokeshack is good BBQ and it's on your way to Kiaway on Maybank Hwy.

    JB's Smokeshack @ 3406 Maybank Hwy., Johns Island, SC 843 - 557 - 0426.

I would also add Tomato Shed Cafe on John's Island. They are only open for lunch, but they are connected to a farm and I believe they have their own shrimp trawlers.

Love Tomato Shed and JB's. There's another place out near Kiawah called Fat Hen.

I haven't been there yet but my Kiawah friends love it.

If you want to come to Mt Pleasant Boulevard Diner, Page's Okra Grill, and Seewee are all good too.

I also like Fat Hen, it's a real neighborhood type place. You should check it out when you get the chance, Sue, I think you would like the place. Tip of the day: Fat Hen accepts reservations for parties of 4 or more, and I know they also have 1/2 price wine nights, call to find out exactly what days.

I just don't get over to that side often. Like it's really far away.

You can't eat in, but the Fish Net on Savannah Highway (that would be Route 17 going from Charleston toward Beaufort) is one of a vanishing breed of Southern eateries. It's in an old gas station, right next to Dodge's Chicken, and they make the best fried crabs (since it's a Christian establishment, it's not deviled crabs, but Jesus crabs). Fresh fish, everything is done right in front of you. Affordable, huge portions, and an experience.Go through Johns Island up to 17, a couple of miles from the intersection. Looks like a dump, food is far from it.
