Impossible Quest? Quiet Sat. Eve in Mission

Three of us attending 5 PM Marsh pergormance would love to be able to walk to dinner and eat well while hearing each other's conversation.

Was hoping to try Gracias Madre, but it may be too noisy.

Thoughts, please?

  1. This Saturday will be pretty deserted, especially any neighborhood place.

Walking distance to the Marsh and not too loud: Udupi Palace (S. Indian Vegetarian), Tuba (Turkish), Lotus Garden (Vietnamese), Noeteca, or Yo's Sushi.

    1. Nombe would be perfect for you. I think Gracias Madres is always too loud.

      1. What about Foreign Cinema? It can get loud, but not *that* loud.

Heirloom Cafe looks intriguing, though I have not been there myself.

And if you're looking for a taste of the Mission, maybe Regalito or Panchita's #3 would fit the nice + quiet + close to the Marsh bill?

I really like Foreign Cinema, but I think it is one of the louder restaurants in the Mission. Range would be quieter.

The tables upstairs are reasonable to my ears, but FC and the Marsh are a long walk apart.

What about Waltzwerk? That would go well with a Marsh performance, never seems too loud in there.

Ti Couz would be my second choice. Tables are a little close together, but the room acoustics are OK.

Third would be Sunflower, which is also never loud.

I'd also think of the Slow Club. I haven't been in enough to know how loud on a friday. And Universal Cafe, which might not be too far a walk.

Each has its own vibe, so fully depends what kind of night you want to have. None of those places are super high end, not in the category of Range, but each has its charm.

Distance between FC and the Marsh = 0.2 mile. A stroll relative to Walzwerk (1 mile). No opinion on who has better entrees :).

Whoa! My mistake. I was thinking of intersection for the arts (maybe Marsh used to do shows there?). FC for sure, and not a lot of backups.

Dosa. The place on the corner that changes hands a lot at the corner of 22nd and Val - now Garcon - any reports? That room has a lot of heavy hanging fabrics, should be moderately quiet. Often-recommended Limon isn't that far - how's the noise there?

Garcon is very noisy. A better similar choice would be La Provence on 22nd and Guerrero.

Limon is at 16th street, not near 22nd and Valencia. Limon Rotisserie is at 21st but way over on S. Van Ness. They're both pretty loud.

                    Thinking of trying Tuba.

Went to Troya the other evening and kind of liked the food but found it surprisingly mild in seasoning--at least both the falafel and a great-sounding, pleasant-tasting salad with black lentils and bulgur.

Tuba is silent on the "provenance" of its ingredients though.

I'll be getting my Sonoma lamb fix at Ciccia soon after anyway!

I'd park half way between Universal Cafe and the Marsh and go to Universal. I find it a loud in Slow Club.

                    1. re: ML8000

Universal Cafe isn't near the Marsh (Valencia and 22nd).

                      1. re: Windy

It's about 7 blocks away...hence the park half way suggestion.

In a similar vein (something of a hike from the Marsh) the back, quasi outdoors area at Bar Bambino is a place where one can actually have a conversation.
