Mariscos Chente - Ceviche Mixto

I had the ceviche mixto today, and it was delicious.

The pulpo (octopus) was prepared in mostly thin slices (with some larger pieces), and it was very tender....not rubbery as it sometimes becomes.

I also got a nice taste of shrimp that I've not experienced before. After the initial burst through the outer layer, it was smooth and very sensuous, with an almost tangy flavor. Very unique for me.

They include chopped cucumber which adds a slightly crunchy texture and fresh flavor.

It was spicy, and went well with the seemingly house-made corn tortilla chips.

The green salsa they give you with the tortilla chips had a nice lime flavor to it. Very original and I enjoyed it as a condiment.

  1. Spicy? Really? Last I had it, it wasn't spicy at all... Maybe that was in comparison to the Camarones Aguachiles that comes doused in that green fire salsa (as I call it, and have since asked them to go easy on its use...)... Did you ask for it to come spicily?

No, I didn't ask for spicy. That's just how it came. With very finely chopped onion, cilantro and jalapeno.

Lil Mikey -- not related to your post, but I love your avatar -- it was my favorite hot sauce/condiment in the 70s when I was in college. Recognize the label -- PIckapeppa.

It had cilantro in it? I don't recall that dish having it before when Sergio made it. I'm a cilantro hater so am curious. But I've been going down to the Lennox location lately. Especially now that Sergio has the grill and the snook is back on the menu.

i've only ever had it with cucumber and onion... no cilantro or jalapenos or spicyness.

had the snook at lennox tonight.
              terrific.

        2. I almost went there for the ceveich mixto yesterday....almost! I love it.

          1. Yea, it's good!! Although, on my last visit it wasn't as deftly prepared as before. Too much lime juice. However, I still think this place is a gem.

            1. Went today (Saturday) for lunch. I had the ceviche mixto and one marlin taco - both were forgettable.

The ceviche was far too juicy - it was not spicy (the green salsa was spicier). To Jase, the cilantro was miniscule; I couldn't even taste it, but did see flakes of it. The octopus probably had been par-boiled to make it so tender - too, too tender for my taste - adore Papa Cristos'.

I can only give the marlin taco a SO WHAT - hadn't a clue I was eating marlin, or any type of fish, and it's color and texture resembled that of refried beans. Whatever cheese that had been put on it, had been melted to a char.

Agreed about the marlin taco. Seemed like mushy canned tuna to me, but maybe that's how it is? Fish tacos are excellent though.
