Where to buy decent chorizo near the SGV?

Johnny L Jun 30, 2010 05:29 PM

Looking for it to use for this 4th of July weekend. Need something that will crisp up well to be sliced and put on slices of baguettes.

    Schreiner's in Glendale.

Schreiner's has chorizo? Didn't know that; in fact, I still doubt it*. Lion King (stores in Pasadena, Monrovia and ??) has a chorizo ranchero that I want to try - looks like a good Italian sausage, like the guy at Roma on North Lake makes, but of course the spicing is going to be different. It's also in their flyer as being on sale this week.

      * Ooops! Sonofagun, wrong again! It is on the list. Of course, I don't think I've ever seen it in the case OR the freezer. They do have about three times as many varieties on the list as they ever have in the store.

Where is this? Pasadena is close, I love new stuff.

Will, where is "Lion King" in Monrovia? Did you mean King Ranch perhaps?

La Blanquita on Valley near Peck. it is like a coarse ground sausage, not as grease as the store bought Reynaldos or Carmelita. It should slice okay for a sandwich or appetizer.

La Blanquita on Valley Blvd near Garvey. Great place with a nice coarse ground chorizo and not all fat like some of the market ones.
