HELP! Best FISH TACOS in Silverlake??!!

Hi Everyone,

I'm in Silverlake tomorrow night and am searching for the best fish taco (grilled or fried).

Does anyone have any comments about:

I've been to TACOS DELTA and wasn't crazy about their fish tacos.

Thanks, Chowhounders!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. The best fish tacos in SL are found here: that is, if Ricky is still out there plying his trade?

Thanks, Servorg! It doesn't look like he's in Silverlake on a weeknight, but great to be able to follow his Twitter feed...

In that case you may want to test drive TBFTiE and see what you think:

second. hopefully the salsa bar is loaded with good stuff

          1. re: mc michael

Hopefully the salsa bar is clean and there is ice to keep stuff cold. They need to keep an eye on the ice and cleanliness!

            1. re: mc michael

i just went there for lunch while i was getting chocolate. the bar was a little messy, but not too bad. the ice could have used replenishing.

it's not a destination like ricky's fish tacos, but still ok if you're in the area.

Wow, great! Thanks for posting this. I follow him but missed this tweet. Looks like parking won't be an issue, either.

Darn! I wish Ricky would be around for dinner as well. If anyone goes for lunch, please tell Ricky that the Dinner Crowd eagerly awaits him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

            1. re: Liquid Sky

I have eaten every baja style fish taco in L.A. that I could find- and Ricky is still the man!

where's ricky at again? and hours? thanks.

                1. re: kevin

1400 n virgil which is basically a driveway just south of sunset. He's up to about 7 days a week these days, I think until about 5 or until he sells out. Best thing to do is check his Twitter feed the day you are planning on going. He's very good about updating his hours daily.

        2. Isn't there a place called Best Fish Tacos, in Silverlake? Or is that Echo Park?

used to be pretty good until ricky's came in town

              1. re: ns1

Ricky is that cart, right? Don't see the hype about this,-nothing great or worth making a trip out for.

                1. re: reality check

i wouldn't really want to go to bftie even if i lived in the neighborhood. it's cheaper, but "you get what you pay for".

                    1. re: Burger Boy

That first site, just like CH, is all opinion.

The bloggers are just an extension or precusor to the review sites.

But the point of every review site, should be expressing honest and differing reviews about a restaurant.

                      1. re: reality check

All sites are just opinion, right? The volume of extremely positive reviews specks loud and clear on Yelp.

                        1. re: Burger Boy

Yeah, I get all my information from Yelp, such a great site.

                          1. re: reality check

Just one of many my friend and I am sure they get all their info from Chowhound! LOL Dude

                            1. re: reality check

some opinions are well informed. there are plenty of bloggers, yelpers, chowhounds, and so on that are reliable and trustworthy.

rft's yelp reviews do suffer from the bandwagon effect, though.
