BRGR:Shack coming to Ballston.

Saw this place last night. Can't find a website. Anyone know anything?

  1. Weird. There's a two outpost biz in NYC wth a similar name, but the font is different and they're not mentioning any move to DC.

Not unless they're changing their logo. Look at the first link in my earlier post.

      2. Nope. It is plastered all over just like: BRGR:Shack. I don't think it is the same as BGR The Burger Joint, it seems clearly different.

Those two names are too darned close.

What is missing from the two links I posted before and knowledge about BGR? Look at the pictures and conclude, easily, that there are THREE operations with a similar name (and in my searching which apparently hasn't helped anyone there are even more).

OK, we get you. It's not BGR and it's probably not the place in New York. It's mysterious, someone apparently jumping on the premium burger explosion that's hit town like sushi. Where's this new place so we can watch the window and gossip about updates (or complain that there are none)?

It is a couple doors down from 7-11 across the street from the Ballston metro station. It used to be the Eat n Run Deli.

I live right around the block. I'll keep a lookout.

        2. hmmm, copyright issues much?

The Greek (lamb w/tzatiki) burger at BGR Spout Run is amazing! Asian Tuna, not so much.

I stopped by on Saturday for lunch. They did a nice job with the place. Hard to believe that it used to be the Eat n Run deli.

Anyway, I was somewhat disappointed with the burger. They spend a lot of effort explaining that these are "grass fed" hamburgers, and therefore good for you or something (lower fat, high vitamins, good for the planet, etc., etc.). But the burger just seemed tasteless to me. I got a bacon-cheeseburger, which comes on a pumpernickle bun. The pumpernickle bun just killed it for me (tasted like it was a few days old). Next time I'll try just a regular bun.

Also, I thought it was a bad sign when they told me that they generally cook their burgers medium-well unless otherwise specified. I requested medium-rare, and it ended up somewhere between medium and medium-well. And when I ordered, I saw them throw a partially cooked burger onto the grill, so it seems they are reheating previously cooked burgers rather than starting with a raw patty (at least, this is how it seemed to me).

Very good fries though. And my wife was happy with her turkey burger.

How does it compare to other local joints? Light years behind Rays and BGR. Somewhat comparable to Big Buns, although I like Big Buns slightly better.

I'll probably give it another shot though since I live so close by.

Sounds, at least philosophically, like Elevation Burger. Nobody, it seems, cares for their grass fed save-the-whales burgers (described pretty much like you described the one at Burger Shack) but some like Elevation's cooked-in-olive-oil fries. I don't.

But have no fear, the nearly uninterrupted stream of new burger places is still flowing. Burger 7 is coming to the former home of the former Burrito Brothers in the Idlewood Plaza shopping center west of Falls Gulch (Whole Foods, Jason's Deli, across from Trader Joe's)

Thanks for the report. It is as I feared just from looking at plates through the window. I don't think I'll bother trying it.
