Hell's Kitchen recs needed

Visiting NYC with in-laws from South Africa in October. Staying at a hotel 38th & 10th, near the Javits Center. I've been searching this board and NY Mag and not finding many good dinner choices in that area. As we'll have had lunch at Carnegie Deli one day and Katz's another, we may not need dinner, but just in case...

Moderately priced (say $25 pp incl tax and tip, no booze) and not touristy (unless really good). Most ethnic probably OK, except Chinese. Vietnamese particularly appreciated.

Thanks much.

Hell's Kitchen was pretty good when I went.

It is true that you are near an embarrassment of restaurant riches on 9th Ave, however, if you want to stay on 10th, many of my friends at my office in the HK are super into Olieng Thai restaurant over on 45th and 10th. It's a small casual place with a good menu and fresh veggies. I went there once for a late-night office dinner and was pretty pleased. Also, super cheap.

You're actually close to a very good stretch of food on 9th Avenue. Do a search for "9th" on the Manhattan board; to get you started, here's a pretty good thread:

BTW, Hell's Kitchen is one of my favorites in the city, but you would need to watch your ordering to stay below $25pp. A lot of 9th Avenue restaurants are in that range: great, but certainly mid-priced rather than low-priced (I'd also put Marseille and Casellula in that category, but still recommend both). Wondee Siam and Five Napkin are comfortably within range; I'd also point you toward Uncle Nick's (Greek), though it's up in the low 50's.

Hell's Kitchen (That's its name) = modern Mexican
        Marseille - French bistro
        5 Napkin Burger
        Pam Real Thai
        Wondee Siam (Thai)

Most say to avoid Carnegie Deli, btw. I'm not a big deli person so can't personally attest.
