Top two favorite BBQ pork rib joints in L.A.?

Please let me know your top two favorite BBQ joints in L.A. Favorite and runner-up in that order.

I see BBQ threads all the time but they get wordy. I don't want you to write reviews. I don't care about parking, service, chipped plates, etc.

I don't want to know who does the best Mac-n-Cheese, brisket, yams, just your favorite pork ribs -- baby back ribs, spare ribs, St. Louis ribs, Kansas City ribs, rib tips, small ends, whatever.

The only rule is if you don't see wood smoke, or a BBQ smoker, then you can't vote for them.

My number 1: Phillips -- Leimert Park

Excuse my ignorance but is there more then just the one Jaybee's in Gardena? I ate there after they won the chowhound poll back in like 2000.

No, only one Jay Bees in LA area. I've found their ribs to be fatty and gristly.

You do know that "pork ribs" include baby back, spare ribs and St. Louis ribs-which are spare ribs with the "tips" cut off.

JR's does use wood smoke, they just don't make good BBQ.

My choices for pork ribs- spare ribs.

I agree with your rule about seeing the smoke, it's what turned me off of JR's BBQ on La Cienega a while back and helped me find JnJ.
