Branchburg/Bridgewater Area

  • 4

Need some help...coming down to Bridgewater area for the weekend...I need a great/good steakhouse or some good Italian restaurant to take the edge off of a busy weekend.

Thank you in advance! Yes, I know that NYC is only 35 miles away...but don't really want to deal with going into the city and coming back.

  1. hydraaa - there have been many restaurant reviews on Chowhound on the Somerville and Bridgewater restaurant offerings, so if you search either of those towns you'll come up with threads, particularly on the Italian restaurants.
For a great/good steakhouse I have two recommendations:

    1. Char Steakhouse: http://www.charsteakhouse.com/
    2. Verve. http://www.vervestyle.com/home.html

Italian is a dangerous topic here since it always launches a torrent of postings of those who agree and those who disagree with a particular recommendation. I'll start the war of words with Il Pomodoro: http://www.ilpomodoro.com/

    1. Been a year and a half since we moved from Bridgewater. While we lived there, our favorite Italian restaurants were La Catena on Rt 22 and Ciao Bello on North Gaston Ave in Somerville

      1. Assuming this is the weekend in question, the following information may be too late.

I always liked La Catena but the last time I was there it was as if we were present at a death watch. On a Friday night, between 6:30 and 8:30, exactly three tables were occupied. The food was good (not great), and the service was spot on, but it was a rather depressing experience.

My favorite Italian restaurant in the area remains da Filippo's. I regret that I don't get there as often as I would like.

You might be able to kill two birds with one stone by going to Valdebinito's, which is where Main Street Bistro used to be. I have not been there but have heard one or two good reports about the food. The menu is described as Argentinian with Italian influences so you might be able to get a decent steak there (and a side of pasta??).
