Huntley Tavern or Bona Vita Osteria in Summit, NJ?

  • 6

Yes, I know they offer different types of food but am looking for feedback on both places? Looking for a nice, casual place to have dinner with my mom this holiday weekend.

Thanks.

  1. I'm a big fan of Bona Vita Osteria. Fresh appetizers (the Grilled Brussels Sprouts and Pancetta is wonderful), homemade pastas, and creative desserts in a bright, unpretentious dining room.

Have not been to the Huntley Tavern.

I was about to reply to this when I realized it was nearly a year old. The OP was looking for recommendations for LAST YEAR.

Why do people dredge up old threads and reply to them?

What's wrong with adding to old threads? It seems like a good way to keep information about a venue, town or whatnot in one place. It seems so much easier than running through seventy threads on the same place. To each her own I suppose.

    2. Bona Vita is BYOB...the survivors of the Mama Tucci experiment gone awry in Livingston. It's fine, but nothing to rave about. I'm more of a fan of Fiorino's across the street. Full service bar there. The Huntley Tavern is a beautiful space, modeled after some place in Napa, but I have never, ever, ever, had a good meal there. Except maybe once for lunch at the bar. No, the soup was cold, so I take it back.

I agree - go to Fiorino's or if you want BYOB, go to their sibling restaurant down on Morris Ave - La Focacia. BVO was not only nothing to write home about, I thought it was just simply bad. Step one should be to get rid of the micowave - nuked meatballs are downright tortious.

      2. If you want Italian, Fiorino is the better choice. In my opinion they consistently have some of the best Italian in northern NJ. Huntley Tavern is hit or miss.
