CityZen vs. Restaurant Eve

  • 7

I have reservations at CityZen for my birthday dinner and I am on the waitlist at Restaurant Eve (Bistro). Is there a clear winner between the two (if, by some chance, I get the reservation at Restaurant Eve and have to choose)? I've been to Restaurant Eve (Bistro) and loved it, though that visit was a few years ago. I've never been to CityZen and cannot figure out if going with a known (delicious) quantity trumps trying something new (to me) and lauded. Any advice?

Uhockey's write up of CityZen is a wonderful resource for the OP. Unfortunately, his write up about Restaurant Eve won't be the least bit helpful since it describes a tasting meal in the restaurant while the OP is considering a meal in the Bistro. Apples. Oranges.

    2. I'd prefer the bistro at Restaurant Eve to Cityzen. But it also depends on your taste. Cityzen will be more strictly modern while the bistro at Restaurant Eve will be more like comfort food with an eye toward modernity. Restaurant Eve also has the warmth and charm of a 'hidden' restaurant in an Old Town Alexandria townhouse, as where Cityzen is in a big, plush, fancy, modern hotel.

      1. No contest. If your reservations were for the Tasting Room at Eve, that might be a different matter. But, given that they're for the Bistro, then there is no question: keep your reservations at CityZen. I celebrated my birthday there last year and it was phenomenal. And, FYI, I actually enjoyed my experience at CityZen more than my experience at Eve's Tasting Room.

I agree with this (and I found the service at CityZen to be great, although admittedly I haven't visited recently).

        2. Having been to both I recommend Restaurant Eve in a big way. Great food, great atmosphere - far superior service, at least in my experience.

          1. Agree with Steve (earlier post), there's a distinct difference btw the 2 places in terms of food (modern vs. comfort food) and ambiance (luxury vs. eclectic) so I think it boils down to personal preference. I have been to both recently - CityZen and Restaurant Eve Tasting Room - and can attest to impeccable service and amazing food quality! Don't think you can go wrong with either, just depends on what you prefer. Bon appetit!
