I had the misfortune of tasting some Parmacotto truffled ham at Lund's last year. The ham must have gone bad. To start with, there was an iridescent sheen on it. I'm used to sheens on some ham products. This was different, but still went ahead to the next step. There was an odd odor to to it, but then again, truffles have a strong aroma. So what the heck - on to the final step, the taste. The small piece of ham had the mouth-feel of velvet, and a taste I can't quite describe. I had to spit it out into a napkin. I told the deli person that the ham had an odd taste, and he just gave me a "uh-huh". Couldn't get the "velvet" feel off my tongue for an hour. When I see "truffled ham", I still shudder.
My guess is that it just wasn't a big mover at Lund's, and that was a chunk that outlived it's shelf life. Perhaps it's for the best Lund's no longer carries it.

Oh, sorry about your terrible experience. Shortly after it was discontinued I asked about it, and they said it had gotten too expensive. You're probably right that it didn't sell. Tell you what, if I find a trusted purveyor I'll let you know so you can try it again and get the experience out of your mind; it truly is wonderful.
