what's up at 18th and Conneticut?

Baraka's gone. Eliza's gone. Thanya and Salee is gone. Lingba is gone. I understand, some of this happened 6 months ago but I'm not keeping up on the neighborhoods like I should.

Aperto, Chez Papa, Goat Hill all sticking.

Now we have Sunflower, Pera, and whatever's on the corner. None of which are in Chowhound Links, of course.

Anyone in that neighborhood able to write about the recent additions?

A new place called Rocketfish just opened, I haven't tried it yet, but have heard good things!

Chez Maman in no danger of going away. It and Chez Papa are being kept as home base by the group that owns them. Each of the other restaurants they develop will eventually be sold to new owners for continuation in pretty much same form, is my understanding.

Baraka is now new outpost of Vietnamese Sunflower. Lingba is going to be a fish oriented place.

I didn't meant to imply that either Chez was in danger, just that people should get out and try things! The restaurants looked very healthy, and as Joan points out, have solid backing.

The only way that the restaurants & bars database gets updated is if users enter new or missing spots by clicking on "manage your links" just below the dialog box for new posts and selecting "add a restaurant or bar". Chow is not devoting any staff time to this, per discussion threads on Site Talk. I've not seen any of the automated feeds for some month now --- there were so many problems with the earlier feeds, I suspect they've been discontinued as more trouble than they're worth. So if you'd like to see more than just the newest Quizno's or Starbucks in the database, please have at it.

I had lunch at Pera and it was a good neighborhood place. Turkish with a very attentive owner and staff. I had the lamb burger and thought it was good chow. It was several weeks ago so I don't have all the details, but I remember thinking it was a good place to go if you're in the neighborhood.

Umi is still my pick for best chow on that street.
