Looking for breakfast near Binghamton...

We are about to take our annual road trip to upstate NY. We travel overnight, arriving pretty early in the morning--and usually hungry. Last year we resorted to Burger King in desperation and oh my it was awful. Hoping someone might have a suggestion for a diner or some such place that we could stop and eat. Definitely casual, as we will have been in the car all night, and have two young children with us.

We travel up I-81 to Binghamton and then northeast on Rte 12 to Greene and Oxford and Norwich.

Any suggestions much appreciated!

  1. I haven't been in a couple of years, but Apple Dumpling Cafe is very cute place to get a bite to eat, and they have a full breakfast menu. It's a little off the beaten path. Here's a link to the menu.

If you want a typical diner, I can't think of anything really incredible, but Park Diner is totally acceptable in terms of diners, and the service is friendly. It has a pretty nice view, too.

    1. The Spot is on Rte. 11. Take the first exit once you have crossed the river on Rte. 81, then go north on 11. It brings to mind a New Jersey / Long Island style of diner - huge menu, open 24 hours, big desert case, and open 24 hours per day (or it used to be; it's been a while since we've stopped). They do a fine job on standard stuff like breakfast, not too bad on other stuff (although the deserts never tase as good as they look, here, in NJ, or on LI ...). Probably too early for you, but I've had many a fine bowl of soup there.

      1. Another for The Spot:
