What type of food? Gascogne has decent French fare and a pre-theatre menu; also a cute garden in the back. Spice, the mini-chain Thai restaurant is also close by. Cafeteria is on 7th and has American comfort food (Tyler Florence joint).

I recommend Trestle on Tenth, on 10th Ave near 24th St. They also have a pleasant garden to dine in if it's nice weather.

I agree with Trestle on Tenth. I also love Le Zie but I don't believe they take reservations.

You really can't go wrong. I love the duck necks.

before the Joyce last Saturday we went to Crispo on 14th St for salads & pasta. the dishes didn't eat quite as well as they read on the menu but were perfectly acceptable. cocktails were nicely executed esp. white peach sangria.

Bottino is next door to Trestle on 10th. The food there (Italian) is very good and they also have a garden. It's full of Italians and you will often run into famous artists there.

Don't know whether Le Zie takes reservations, but it's huge. I've never had any trouble being seated at any hour.

The food is more refined (and expensive) at Bottino. Le Zie's food is more rustic and the restaurant can get quite noisy. The latter has a younger crowd. Both have first-rate Italian food.

my husband and I love the cuban sandwich at Casa Habana right across the street.
it's a cuban style diner, homemade and delicious. As well, rice and beans, pulled pork, etc.
              enjoy. Casual. neighborhoodie, warm, friendly.

Gascogne and Le Zie are both good. I also like Suenos for upscale Mexican.

Their branzino is really good - a frequent special. I was searching this board to find an alternative to Le Zie when I go to the Joyce tomorrow, but I will probably just go back to this old favorite. I usually get the spaghetti and meatballs - nothing special, but perfect! 1" meatballs - much better than the softballs so many places serve.
