So I live in college park and we have a severe shortage of good pizza. Where can I go in th dc metro area to get some?

  1. Some people might think being as close as you are to the original Ledo's that you are as close as you can be to good pizza.

And others wouldn't. But if there was a "DC Pizza" style, it would be from the original Ledo's

But to be fair, most Ledo's flamers usually target the chain and not the OG - if they've ever been.

We now make our own at home. Just shy of the clean cycle thing with the oven - and make our own thin crust dough. Usually use our own makeup of Provel (I'm from Missouri), but switch that out as well, such as Buffalo mozz and anchovies!!!

    2. 2-Amys near AU, matchbox in chinatown, pizza paradiso near dupont circle, Mia's in Bethesda all are great choices

To dining with doc's list, I would add Pete's Apizza (Columbia Heights and Tenleytown) and Comet Ping Pong (CT Ave. at Nebraska).

I would second Pete's Apizza. It is the best pizza I have found in DC by far.
I find that Pizzaria Paradiso, while they have great toppings and combos, has a very lack-luster crust and those aforementioned toppings are doled out scantily. I am talking 4 small slices of mushroom and 2 pieces of basil for an entire pie :-(
Also, Matchbox is good for the non-traditional very very thin crust pizza.

Ditto what dining with doc recommended.

I would just add Vace if you want just a takeout slice. http://www.vaceitaliandeli.com/

Vace! Of course! (Can't believe I forgot to add it myself!)

            1. re: woodleyparkhound

Everytime I go there "just for a slice" I end up leaving with bagfuls of goodies, and I barely have room in my place for myself and the basic necessities of life ...

        3. Any suggestions for Gluten-free Pizza?
My wife has had the G-f pizza at Uno's in Columbia Mall, and rates it as acceptable. I've not really enjoyed what I've eaten at Uno's. I love to find a real pizza joint in Howard County that offer something we could both enjoy.

Pete's Apizza serves gluten-free pizza; I haven't had it though.

I believe both Rustico and Pizza Paradisio have GF pizza, as well, but you might call to confirm.

            2. Have you tried Vito's? It's on Rt. 1, right by the UMD campus. I've read mixed reviews of their pizza, but I like it.

              1. 7th hill pizza right off eastern market metro is excellent. and i second pizza paradiso near dupont metro.
