I'm loathe to paint with a broad brush. On the bright side, contrary to common misconception we aren't in chain wasteland. Of the 30 restaurants only one (Tony Roma's) is a big chain, although a couple have one or two other locations. So, I consider this aspect great progress in the general area. Plus there are several good restaurants that aren't participating. I really want to support those good restaurants in the area since I think qualty attracts quality and I want my $ to encourage those places that are providing interesting food. As far as the participating restaurants it is true that quite a few are college and under 30 hangouts and not the most interesting for the more senior CHers.

Summit House can be good. The location and atmosphere are great. Olde Ship is fine if you like really heavy English pub grub from the 50s. I like to explore history so sometimes I can go for that food. It's a shame there's nothing related to contemporary British culinary trends there. Good beer/ale selections. The Cellar can be quite good and it's a fun dining experience. Plus this is a really good deal. Monkey Business is a fantastic place for breakfast and lunch. The backstory is compelling as well. Joe's is kind of interesting if you like fried snake, alligator, rabbit and the like. Fun--but I don't know if I would call it good. Tranquil Tea Lounge is great for a cuppa and a light lunch. Yogurtland--slide over Pinkberry!

Some of the others would be worth a try as well at the prices.

Thanks for the recs! I should have mentioned that I've already been to Summit House...and I'll pass on Yogurtland...my sister works at the Pinkberry across the street :)

Phans55 is on the RW list. It's great, delicious and the ambience is wonderful. The RW menu has a $20 selection I would recommend. Went with friends and everyone love the food. Please try them, they are not downtown but up the street on Harbor. It's worth the quick trip.

      3. Fullerton has such a nice downtown, but it's sad that its restaurants are just soooo meh! (And I live here.) The ones that I find are worth going to are Summit House & The Olde Ship.

I'm with you Ann; Fullerton is more of a scene than a dining destination. Some really good concepts with mediocre to poor execution.

        2. Places to avoid would be Angelo & Vinci's; Cherch (never eaten here, but was told to me)

          Tranquil Tea Lounge is fair.

I like Thai Basil, Summit House, The Cellar, and Matador Cantina.

          1. I've lived in Fullerton my whole life. Not exactly a culinary town.

I love certain dishes at Roman Cucina. TC Yummies makes delicious old style sandwiches.

We have enjoyed The Cellar in the past, but their Mother's Day Brunch a couple years ago was such a turn-off (poor quality) that we have been hesitant to return.

Summit House is like an upscale CoCo's IMO: Ye Olde Ship can be tasty...if you want to wait for a table in a noisy/mediocre restaurant. To each his own...
