Girl's night out on the Danforth?

Sweet Pea Jun 24, 2010 07:10 PM

I'm meeting a couple of old friends for a late dinner on the Danforth on Saturday. Any recs for a good meal with wine, mid-range pricing (so, under $40/pp without alcohol) at a place that won't be too insanely loud for conversation on a weekend night? Open to any cuisine other than Japanese, though ironically, Greek isn't high on the list.

And unfortunately I think these 2 suggestions are pretty much it, esp. if Greek is out. Any chance your group would consider Queen and Jones area. More options, including Gio's, Celi Cottage which would both be good for a girls night.

Mambo Lounge is fun but may be a bit loud depending on who's sitting around you.

Mambo lounge is nice but if you sit on the patio, which I'd want to do in the summer, it is very noisy due to the TTC buses that idle behind the building. Globe is a good option, it won't be loud inside and the patio is high up so you don't hear the buses, even though it right beside Mambo Lounge. I've eaten at Globe twice in the last 2 months and had some great meals. And the patio menu had been re-vamped, it's even better than last year.

Lolita's Lust is also a great choice. It's one of the better non-Greek places on Danforth.

I would go with 7 numbers, it has a fun staff and does alot of family like style dishes that are just fun to eat.
I love the calamari and I can spend hours there.

I like 7 numbers just fine, in fact I ate there last night...however I it's likely to be too loud for a conversational evening.

I think your choices are Globe and Globe...

That would be my suggestion. Casual and fun, with good food. They won't rush you out the door if you choose to linger over coffee.

Thanks. I've been to Globe a few times and 7 numbers once or twice (at this location). Both were on my list, but I wasn't sure about Lolita's Lust, having never eaten there. Does it turn a bit clubby later in the evening?

I was there about a year ago and I really enjoyed the food and the service was great. I don't remember specifics, but I remember having fish that was very nicely cooked. I don't remember it being clubby in the dining area.

I've never known what people see in Lolita's Lust these days. I gave up on it years ago. Should I give it another shot? Do they still have that server who's a dead ringer for Disco Stu?

Seven Numbers can be loud even on a weekday.

I'd 2nd Globe and throw Pantheon onto the low rung of choices.

i was only there once and it was a year ago. I don't remember everything we had, but I remember we all enjoyed our food and the service was good. We had a female server who was great. I don't remember any other servers. I just remember being pleasantly surprised because I didn't know a lot about it and it was a nice place to be with my gfs. That said, i haven't been back, so I didn't have anything that made me run back quickly.

One of my most memorable meals with my sister, just catching up and hanging out, was at Lolita's Lust. I had way too much to drink there too, which if you know me is highly unusual, but their cocktails were great.

What about Trappezi? Never been so I'm only throwing out the name.

7 Numbers is extremely loud. Don't do it.

With respect to the noise at 7 Numbers, I am lucky to have been only during quieter times, I guess. I can see that on the weekends, with a crowd in there, it could be loud...
